Journalist Dilwar Hussain Mozumder, chief reporter of the digital portal The Cross Current and Assistant General Secretary of the Gauhati Press Club, was rearrested after securing bail from an earlier case. He had initially questioned the MD of a cooperative bank over alleged financial irregularities on March 25.

The arrest is related to charges of attempting to steal valuable bank documents. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed Mozumder is not recognized as a journalist under government definitions, which apply only to print and electronic media. Authorities did not inform his family or lawyers about the new arrest immediately.
