When Allegations Rise, Justice Must Speak — Court Seeks Police Report

Journalist Omar Rashid, formerly associated with The Wire, was accused by a woman through a social media post of rape, physical abuse, and forcing her to eat beef. Following the viral post, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognizance of the allegations and directed the Delhi Police to conduct an investigation. The case later reached the Delhi High Court, which on October 27, 2025, instructed the police to submit a detailed report on the probe to ensure transparency and accountability in the process. Rashid has denied the allegations, claiming they have caused serious harm to his reputation and career, and has urged for a fair and speedy inquiry to establish the truth. The case has sparked wide debate over press freedom, due process, and the perils of social media trials, serving as a reminder that justice must be guided by facts — not fear, emotions, or headlines.
