“PUBLISH OR PERISH”: JOURNALIST RANA AYYUB FACES DEATH THREATS & INTIMIDATION

PERSONAL THREATS AGAINST A PROMINENT INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST
Investigative journalist and Washington Post columnist
Rana Ayyub and her family received multiple, chilling death threats and threats of violence from an unidentified international caller. The caller, who appeared to know her home address, demanded she publish a column on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, threatening her and her father if she refused. The caller’s profile image eerily resembled that of an imprisoned gangster.

Beyond the Call: This incident is not isolated. Rana Ayyub has faced a relentless campaign of harassment, including:

  • Personal information leaks online.
  • Sustained trolling and digital abuse.
  • Judicial harassment, including a Delhi High Court order to register an FIR against her for allegedly insulting Hindu deities

  • Repeated calls from UN human rights experts urging India to end the threats and harassment targeting her.
