The frontline of journalism has moved into the digital newsroom. Fact-checkers and video editors are increasingly suffering from “vicarious trauma”—psychological changes caused by continuous empathetic engagement with graphic User-Generated Content (UGC). Unlike field reporters, office-based staff face unexpected horrors with no contextual warning, watching violence repeatedly to verify facts.

The Bharat Media Association urges media houses to recognize secondary trauma as a legitimate occupational hazard, not a personal weakness, and implement strict organizational protections for digital verification teams.
