Delhi Court Lifts Gag Order on Journalists Reporting on Adani Enterprises

In a landmark ruling, a Delhi court has overturned an earlier gag order that restrained journalists from publishing alleged defamatory content on Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL). The court deemed the order “not sustainable” because the defendants were not given a hearing.

The decision came following an appeal by journalists Ravi Nair, Abir Dasgupta, Ayaskant Das, and Ayush Joshi. District Judge Ashish Aggarwal noted that the previous order would have unfairly allowed plaintiffs to push intermediaries to remove content without due process.

Earlier, the Editors Guild of India had expressed concerns over the September 6 directive, which had led to journalists and content creators receiving takedown notices from YouTube and government authorities. Meanwhile, journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta’s separate challenge to the same order is still pending.
