Tension Escalates: Manipur Journalists’ Union Threatens Criminal Defamation Against PUCL

The Manipur Journalists’ Union (MUJ) has sharply criticized a recent PUCL report, calling it misleading and damaging to the reputation of journalists in the state. MUJ claims the report wrongly portrays the press and undermines their credibility, especially when journalists are working under difficult and risky conditions.

The Union has demanded an unconditional public apology and withdrawal of the report. It also warned that if PUCL fails to respond, MUJ will file a criminal defamation case. MUJ emphasized that press freedom and accountability must be protected, and any unfounded allegations against journalists should be challenged.

This dispute is seen as a crucial moment for safeguarding journalistic integrity and ensuring responsible reporting by all organizations.
