SC Warns Against Using Criminal Laws to Gag Indian Press

In its 2025 jurisprudence, the Supreme Court strongly cautioned against the chilling effect of criminal prosecution on Indian journalists. The Court boldly reiterated that critical dissent against those in power cannot be equated with anti-national conduct. Strong criticism and political satire were officially recognized as legitimate modes of democratic participation.
